PRP/PRGF

PRP/PRGF treatment is truly changing the face of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP), also termed plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) or platelet concentrate (PC), is essentially an increased concentration of platelets to stimulate and accelerate bone grafting consolidation and soft tissue healing.

Blood components such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are all integral in helping the body heal after trauma, injury, or surgery. The platelets, in particular, promote wound healing and deliver “growth factors” to wound sites, stimulating vascular growth and decreasing swelling and healing time. PRP/PRGF is a high concentration of blood platelets with an enriched amount of growth factors to help patients heal after involved treatments.

To prepare for PRP/PRGF treatment, the patient’s blood is collected and placed into a centrifuge where it is separated into layers, one of which is platelet-rich plasma. The patient’s own plasma is used to encourage healing and stimulate cellular growth.
