A Dental Bridge literally “bridges” the gap caused by one or more missing teeth. It consists of crowns that are attached to each other and cemented to the teeth on either side of the gap. Our A+Dentistry dentists will use a bridge to replace the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Dental bridges can also be supported by natural teeth or by implants.
A dental bridge can restore oral function and preserve your smile.
Bridgework is as much an art as it is an exact science. The materials used may be porcelain fused to metal (PFM), or full porcelain, either of which can be made to match the shade of your natural teeth. The choice of material depends on your requirements for strength, wear, and aesthetics. It is important that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible for several reasons. If not treated properly and in a timely manner, the teeth surrounding the gap will begin to shift inward. Since each tooth is supported by its neighboring teeth, if one tooth is missing, the other teeth begin to move and shift into the open spaces. This may affect your bite and can eventually result in problems with the jaw and cause TMJ Dysfunction.
